Well, the major changes are done and I forgot to post. Oh well. Here are some pictures from the floor installation and other random happenings in June.

Here are the cabinets. We need to go pick up the sink and get the counters put in. Although we have cabinets, we are still without plumbing in the kitchen. Ugh.

Current big projects left is the laundry/bathroom switch and remodeling the bathrooms upstairs. If all goes well downstairs, I am going to retile both BRs upstairs.

May is here and almost gone

May is just flying by. Still no floors. I got the call today that they should arrive to the house on Wednesday of next week (20th). With the holiday and all, they will probably go in on Tuesday. That gives us a little bit more time to nail down our laundry room/bathroom conversion. Last weekend as I was ripping down the wall paper in the bathroom, I was thinking about how nice it would be to use the large space for something more useful, like a laundry room. I put the wheels in motion and now we are gathering the paperwork for the permits. We are installing a small powder room in the current laundry closet and putting the washer and dryer in the current powder room. I am also going to add a mud sink and some cabinets for more storage.

I am excited to get started and redo those spaces. I am going to lay new tile and try some tile design work. We are also going to install beadboard too. The powder room will be tiny, but at least it will be cute.

Here are some updates. We got new garage doors on Wednesday. They really complete the look of the house.

Full steam ahead

Again, it’s been a while since our last update, but we are moving right along. We have ordered the floors and I just put in the final revisions for the kitchen cabinets yesterday.

Here is an image of what the floors will look like. I will find out today when the floors are going to arrive. Hopefully after next weekend they can install them.

Here is what the door style will look like. It’s not the exact style, but it’s really close. We are getting Kraftmaid cabinets.

Here is a sample of the cabinet color. It’s very similar to the floor color…I am hoping it all looks good together. There aren’t that many bottom cabinets…but we’ll see.

We also ordered new garage doors. They should be coming real soon.

We have made some real progress downstairs. I will post some pictures later today.

Garage Door Opener

So Brandon finally finished getting one of the garage doors openers installed. The opener is called the “Excelerator”. It opens twice as fast a normal opening speed. It’s a screw drive which is pretty nice. It sounds noisy in the video, but really it’s not. Most times I can’t hear it open from the upstairs office. You can hear it from the master bedroom a bit, but that because the rails are old and right below our room. We are getting new doors and rails as soon as he gets the other opener installed.

Also, I would like to thank Jeremy for helping Brandon install it and for finding the instructions. That saved us a lot of time!!

It’s March already?!?

Ugh, I can’t beleive it’s already March. This year is flying by, but I definately looking forward to spring. Things are progressing and we are getting close to getting floors. We finished the living room and dining (with newly added crown molding) and I am currently working on the foyer. I’m debating whether to put on a coat now or call it a night. Work has been so crazy, that I don’t seem to get much done during the week. We decided to do a little bit of extra work and replace the door casings around the doors on the first floor. I removed the casing tonight and of course was a little more work than I bargined for. Hopefully it will look nice with nice crisp clean moldings and casings. Whoever painted the millwork simply did not care what it looked like and basically screwed it up. Would have taken hours of sanding to get it decent… ergo, we are installing new casing.

Brandon has been working on the kitchen. The soffit is all out and patched up (for the most part). We had lights installed and I didn’t confirm the exact placement with the electrician, so we have to move one of them because it might hit the crown molding around the cabinets. Ugh.

Our goal is May. Sadly, this goal is ambitious. We still have to paint the family room and kitchen and install crown molding in the foyer and family room. We also have to sand and paint the doors, remove the rest of the foyer tile, pick up the subfloor and remove all the nails. There are about 20 other things on list, but those are the major things. I took a few pictures, but I am little to tired to go get the camera. Nothing new, just lots of construction zones happening. With every new area we tackle, another room just gets dirtier.

Christmas at the Miquels

Well it was a unfestive Christmas at the Miquel house. Unfortunately, we decided not to put up a tree since we still don’t have floors downstairs which was really sad (sad that we didn’t have a tree…plus that we don’t have floors). I (Jenni) love decorating for the holidays, but realized my time was better spent working on the house. argh.

Here are some of the projects we completed in Nov-Dec:

Painted the living room (walls and ceiling…not a fun task with 11ft ceilings)
Added crown molding in living room (also not a fun task with 11ft ceilings)
Took out the soffit in the kitchen
Had lights installed in the kitchen
Finished the vanity in the master bath (painted and added hardware)
Hung up the new light in master bath (pics to come)

Kitchen Demo

So we are quickly getting back to work on the house. We got a quote on the floors and realized all the work that has to be done before the floors go in. So we are busy-busy trying to get it done quickly. I am getting really tired of not having a kitchen. I still have to order the cabinets which hopefully won’t take too long to arrive. We went to Sears tonight because they were having a big sale (although by the looks of the parking lot, you would never know it). So we finally bought the range I have been eyeing for the past few months. It’s a pretty sweet range with 5 burners (a center oval burner with intergrated griddle for pancakes and french toast…mmmm).

I also wanted to get the convection oven feature as well since I really enjoy baking.

A new looking house

So just about everything on the exterior is done. We still need to get new garage doors and paint the exterior doors, but things are looking good. Mom and Al came over today and finished up the landscaping. I had no idea they were coming over and was surprised when I got home from work. It looks great.

They are almost done

After 5 days of work, they are almost done with our house. The roof is done and they are finishing up the siding. Then lastly the gutters, shutters and trim work.
